Pan from the window down to the dressing table, Delilah walks in to the frame and sits down at the table; she has just come out of the shower and has a towel on her head and a dressing gown on. Delilah starts applying her make up on. There are snap shots, close up of her eyes whilst putting her mascara on and also of her lips whilst putting her lipstick on. (This is all shot through the reflection of Delilah in the mirror, over the shoulder shot)
Delilah walks to the wardrobe (tracking shot)

Delilah closes wardrobe and when she shuts it she is dressed.
The camera then goes back tot eh dressing table and focuses on the pictures of the two men (stuck on the mirror of the dressing table) in the background we see Delilah (reflection in the mirror) slowly approaching the pictures)
Delilah grabs the pictures.
Close up of Delilah starring at the pictures, Delilah looks up (daydreaming)

Daydream (weird lighting)

Shot of Delilah on bed with James and she is smiling at him, wee see James smiling too, pans to Delilah smiling and when we pan back again we see David, then they start play fighting (action reaction shots, every time shot changes the guy changes too) at the end James grabs the end of the covers and pulls it over them.

Reality scene (in bedroom)

Delilah looks down at the pictures again
Close up of Delilah’s hand as she throws the pictures on the bed
Close up of pictures on be (foreground) Delilah walking out of the room (background)

Camera goes to the bottom of the stairs and we see Delilah walking down the stairs , whilst doing so we change to a close up of her feet to see her red shoes, then go back to a long shot as she is coming down the stairs.
Delilah walks past the camera into the dining room.

In the dining room

One long take of Delilah setting up the table. Delilah takes the glasses out and lights the candles, Delilah puts the forks and knifes out on the table. Delilah picks up a knife and (casually) and smiles at her own reflection in the knife.

Ding dong (doorbell)

Delilah

Looks up realises that the doorbell has rung and she puts the knife down, as she does so she realises that she has got a string coming out of her dress and she just pulls it out and makes her way to the door.

Abstract scene

Delilah has red strings tied to her fingers and we see David and James tied to the other end of the strings. Delilah starts pulling James forward.
Cut back to reality and James is coming forward through the front door and hugs Delilah.
Delilah grabs James by the hand and leads him into the dining room (go out of the frame) camera stays focused on the door as James left it open by accident.

Camera cuts to outside the house where David is coming with red flowers. (Over the shoulder) David sees that the front door is open so he knocks and no one answers so he lets himself inside in order to surprise Delilah.

Delilah opens cookie, inside reads ‘Strings of false love will be cut’
She looks confused and looks up to see David standing behind James, Delilah looks very scared.

James sees Delilah’s face and in curiosity turns around
(Point of view, from David’s perspective)
James turns to see David and looks at him in disbelief

James

Who do you think you are playing at?

David

I was ready to take the next step with you!

Delilah

I can ex…explain

(this will not be heard)

Everything gets out of control, David spills the wine and leaves
James leaves stepping on the flowers on the floor

Abstract

See broken string all over the floor (Delilah has lost control) surround Delilah
Delilah closes her eyes (camera blackout)

Shot of the window in the bedroom, camera pans down to the bed where Delilah is sleeping, the bed looks very messy and all Delilah’s makeup is smudged

Alarm goes off
Delilah grabs alarm and throws it to the wall (camera follows the alarm being thrown), camera is slowly panning back to the bed. Whilst panning we see the photos of the two men on the dressing table and they are crossed off, and we also see dead flowers on the dressing table and all her make up is all over the place and it is very messy.
When camera goes back to Delilah she is slowly getting up, there is a close up of her feet and near them are her red slippers, she pushes them to one side and she just falls back in bed.

Abstract

In the same position as she was in the real world, Delilah is surrounded by strings.

MoodBoard

For my mood board i thought I'd present it a little differently. I used red string to create the tangled effect against a backdrop, i then used various objects and images to depict the themes of my film.

The Chinese lantern, is a reference to the origins of our red string concept, coming from Chinese foke lore, i also wish to include this visually in the film with use of the Chinese meal and the fortune cookie.

The paper chain men, depict a girl in the middle of two boys, relating to the characters and there relationship.

The girl in the mirror is an idea of how we'll show Delilahs vanity and how we can shot her scenes in front of the mirrors.

The crossed fingers behind the back are to show her lies, and the hand heavily relates to the idea of the string coming from her fingers.

The lips with the lipstick is a very sensual shot we also what to achieve in scene one.

The screenshot of '500 days of Summer' is of a sequence which shows 'expectations' and 'reality' at the same time, a concept we've developed in our film.

The small voodoo doll is to represent Delilahs control, and her evil plans to control the men how she pleases.

The images of the red neck ribbon, the rose and the bed sheets are all linked to the idea of the men, the bedsheets from the daydream, and her physical relationship with them. Also the roses or flowers which will be a gift from one of the men to Delilah. And the ribbon to suggest further the idea of the red string, and how its round her neck, almost like a noose, forebodes her fall in the end.

Script ~ Draft 1

(Noriane and I developed a script draft together of our film, we will then compare this to Edward and Esma's interpretation of the script and create a final version as a group).

Idea's for presenting our character

This scene from 'I am Love' an Italian film, presents some aspects we've considered using to present Delilah in the first scene. The close up's of the woman's face and features gives a sensual atmosphere while she is seduced by the food. This, coupled with her costume and make up show her as a glamorous woman and suggest her as even more promiscuous, with the colours such as the red.

It also uses different focuses of her hands and movements while eating the food. Similar to how we would like to show Delilah moving around her vanity and room, applying make up and using the props in the set.

Charcter Profile ~ 'Woman', 'Delilah'

Delilah is our main character of the film, the 'Woman' who is cheating on the male characters. She's always craved attention and gains it through seeing her string of lovers. We called her Delilah because we felt she conducts herself in a classy way and had more classic English upbringing.

Her name's Delilah, why you ask? it was a name i thought was fitting, there are lots of well know Delilahs, and there mostly known as captivating women. There's Samsons Delilah, the temptress who was his downfall and betrayed him. (you know that story? where she cuts his hair and he loses his god like strength?) Songs like Tom Jones Delilah, about how he could see she was no good for him? It just seemed fitting.

She works as a Waitress, making small pay but its a social job which she enjoys the most.

Her birthday is 27th of March, 1991

Which makes her an Aries, known for there carefree, attention craving attitudes.

She's always flirty, fun and confident. She exudes confidence but doesn't come across as vain, that's something that stays hidden on her sinister side.

Her hobbies include

Slow bike rides, allowing her to ride passed others and catch there eye.

Attending Parties, and being the life of them. She has a knack for becoming centre of attention.

Treatment 1 ~ Final

Tag line

Pitch: 'Woman' is 19-20 years old. She is romantically involved with 2 men at the same time without them knowing. She uses them like a puppeteer, and from doing so she gains attention and feels good about herself. However what she doesn't realise is her lies are tampering with the red strings of fate she has made with the men, and how easily they can break.

Story:
We begin with a woman in a black room, all that can be seen is the red strings tied to her hands and fingers, which lead behind her and end attached to two men.The ties that shes made to them through romance.
Switch to a scene of a bedroom, we have a series of close ups, the 'Woman' is applying her red lipstick, make-up, snapshots of her features and hands while getting ready and primping herself. All the while we have our narrator introducing her character.
Around her vanity table we see various pictures of her with various men, past lovers and boyfriends. Red flowers sit in a vase on the table. She walks over to her wardrobe, and opens the door. As it closes we see her in a changed outfit. In the reflection she smooths her hair and giggles, looks upward as she thinks of her two lovers.
We see a montage of her and two men, being intimate, touching hands, lightly kissing her neck and cheeks and embracing her, we see both boyfriends have done this in the past as she recalls it.
We return to reality as we follow her downstairs and into the dining room, were we see a laid table for a meal, we watch as she adds the finishing touches, bringing in chinese to set down, a focus on her hand as she licks her fingers from the food and lights a candle.
'Ding dong' we hear the door bell ring, and just before she walks to the door, she notices and pulls off a fraying red tread from her top.
As she opens the door we cut to the black room, we see the 'Woman' facing one of the men, she looks at him and while laughing crooks her finger in front of her in a suggestive manner, thus pulling on the red string attached, which then pulls him forward. We cut back to the house scene as he steps through the door. As she leads him into the dining room the narration introduces him to us.
Then follows the date scene, sitting, eating the meal, light conversation, he takes her etc.
She then leans over to pick up a fortune cookie when the door bell rings again. Insisting the man goes to open the door, while 'Woman' sats at the table and cracks open the cookie.
Pulling out her fortune it reads '..........'
Cutting to the man opening the door we have narration all the while warns us to whats happening 'Now it gets interesting', and as the door opens were introduced to man number 2.
Standing at the door holding red roses with a grin on his face, it quickly falls as the two men look at each other with shocked expressions.
We cut back to the woman still sitting at the table, the two men walk through the door.
We fade into the abstract scene, the men are pulling on the red strings of fate, it starts to fray.
The strings break, and we see a pov of the 'Woman' , as she looks down to her hands, we see her look up to see the broken strings, and the men are gone.

Treatment 1 ~ Redraft

Tag line: 'The cruelest lies are often told in silence'. - 'Robert Louis Stevenson'

Pitch: 'Woman' is a 19-20 year old girl, she is romantically involved with 3 men at the same time without them knowing. She uses them like a puppeteer, and from doing so she gains attention and feels good about herself. However what she doesn't realise is her lies are tampering with the red strings of fate she has made with the men, and how easily they can break.

Story:

'Woman' is getting ready for a date, she applies lipstick, make-up, primping herself to perfection. We have a initial narration introducing her to the audience and the wrong she's doing. Around her vanity are photos and memories of her past lovers, boyfriends, some crossed out in the face, and her mother. Her phone rings and she talks into (see a montage of her talking to various people- passing on what she's doing, unashamed) while she gets ready. With a quick once over in the mirror she sets out and leaves her room.
Now on the sidewalk, we have an narration introduction to the man's character. (comedic introduction, from the woman's point of view) 'Woman is joined by one of her three men, we've seen how she repeats this date with previous men, and she takes her current man to the same location. The Cafe.

She is standing in control of the red strings she has created
Inside she settles down with her date, they converse lightly and laugh, an enjoyable meal follows.
Her man then advances to her, takes her hand, rubs his thumb on it in circles, a romantic gesture. She smiles back as we hear the narration 'now this is were its gets interesting'.
With the couple still holding hands in a seat by the window we see two men walk past and glance through. (introduction narration to there characters)
Upon seeing 'Woman' holding hands with another, they all confront her, and learn from each other what she's done.
They argue with her while she remains still and silent.
Then when they've all had enough they leave at the same time.

Treament 1 ~ Futher Ideas

We feel our story and characters was self motivated. The back story of the character is she's been raised by her single mother without the presence of her father, its left her with a need for attention and constant praise.

The main character the 'Woman' is seeing three men at once, we've considered a short scene at the beginning of our film to establish her as a character. Applying make-up ,and a basic morning routine, however we've brainstormed idea's of prop use to convey her personality, and the story, such as photos of her various boyfriends and single mother in the shot.

Plot points -

Establishing the 3 relationships.

They want commitment.

When she can not commit, they break up.

She's left alone.

The message was based off of my idea of White Lies, and how they return to haunt you .By cheating purely because she wanted attention, she couldn't commit and return the feelings of her men, this way she doomed herself to be alone.

Overall this how we visualise our film so far.

Beginning with shots of the Woman, close up, almost snap shots of her different features and movements, so we get a sense of her character and the world around her, without revealing all, easing the audience in. (considering using a phone to introduce soundtrack music.)

We then see an abstract scene, the woman standing in the centre of a room, red strings tied to her fingers leading to three male figures.

For the scene of introducing the three men, we imagine a spilt screen into thirds, similar to that in 500 Days OF Summer, this would be a great way to show the simultaneous relationships, with the Woman with a different man in each screen, doing to same actions. Presenting how she's using them, rather than each man being individual to her. This would also have a comfortable, story telling feel to the scene.

As the couples in the three screens reach there destination (a date setting - a cafe?) the screens merge into one, an overlaying image of all the men's hands opening a door.

We have action, reaction shots of each man sitting in the date setting, talking to the woman, with each transition back and forth, its a different boyfriend.

The men start to reach forward, asking for more commitment, using props such as Key's to suggest how they want to progress in the relationship, and she must back away.

She looks down to her hand, and we see the red string, tying them together, it has started to fray. When she looks again, its gone.

We return to the abstract scene, the woman is now tangled in the string, while the men are pulling it tighter.

We return to the date scene, using a circular pan around the cafe, each time it returns to the couple, she's arguing with a different man of the three

Once again we have simultaneous shots of the men leaving.

The woman is left alone.

She's left alone, with the strings broken around her.

We see a scene of the Woman going to the cafe, similar like with the men but now alone, the last shot of her by the window.

Opening Titles

Seven Days trailer

The interesting feature with this trailer is the use of the split screens with the various characters, this could be a good reference when considering our treatments 'visual' idea's. Perhaps we could use this effect while showing the 3 boyfriends, and the woman.

Dexter

Dexter uses a great montage sequence to introduce the main character through the credits, we've already discussed in previous meetings about the idea of introducing the 'woman' through snapshot images and close ups of herself and the setting, this is a good example to refer to.

True Blood

This is more abstract opening, it uses different historical shots and various images to create a sense of the theme and setting of the show, while not having obvious images of the what its about, such as vampires. This would be an interesting technique to use in our film, introducing our story through representations, instead of characters.

B.o.B - Nothin' On You [feat. Bruno Mars]

This is a continuation of the seven days concept, with the changing faces of characters.

Sia - Breathe Me

Our idea of using pictures for a title sequence, this idea could be interesting for introducing a character, and fit to a scene of 'getting ready for a date' etc. To do something like this we'd need to use stop animation, which is something I've had some experience in, which i can bring to the group, if we follow this.

Sia "Breathe Me" from phil tidy on Vimeo.

Sia - Soon We'll Be Found

Another Sia video, in which she uses another art form that's mesmerising. The idea of shadows and hands can relate well to our developing idea of the string of fate, and the puppetier.

Treatment 2 ~ Draft

Treatment 1 ~ Draft

From the idea of 'A powerful person who falls'.

A woman with the need for power over men, and how the red strings of love and fate connect her to the three men in her life, she begins as the puppeteer, 'stringing' the men along with no real love for the men she's with. So adsorbed in her vanity and need for attention she dates the three men at the same time.
However as she carries on the three men try to offer her there love and begin to demand commitment, she should becomes tangled in the own strings she once pulled.
Until she can hide her deception no longer and is caught red handed, and she loses all three men at once, and is left with facing her worst nightmare. Being alone.

The idea of the red strings is inspired by the 'red strings of fate'.
They're used to represent the connection between people, in this case the connection of the men to her, and how she uses those strings to control them, until they break.

1st of October Dairy ~ Production meeting ~ Concepts
